38th week

So after an eventful weekend of contractions, mucus plug and then more pains I went to the OB today. I had lost 2 pounds which I thought was odd, but is apparently okay. I was 1 cm dilated and have a long baby. His head is in my pelvic region and his butt is under my boobs and his legs and feet go to the side. So from head to butt he's as long as my stomach is pregnant.

My OB said I could go this week, but more than likely it will be next week. So we are on a countdown. Wanda is wanting us to wait until May and Mom and Dad are wanting us to wait until they get here next Wednesday. This baby will come when he comes though!

My OB has advised that Jason and I go out on a date night and enjoy this time before the baby arrives. Jason and I had our 32nd birthday Saturday but since I wasn't feeling up to much and had no appetite we really didn't celebrate - but we will this weekend if all is still quiet on the baby front.
Oh - Saturday was just my mucus plug....but it did help me dialate that 1 cm!

Contractions & Mucas Plug

Good morning everyone. It is currently 2:45am and I have been instructed by the OB on call to walk and stand. So I'm standing and typing!

Yesterday I had contractions throughout the day. After about 12/1pm they were pretty constant (but not consistent) and when I finally went to bed I was in a mild amount of pain. So at 1am I got up to go to the bathroom - stop reading now if you are squeamish! Remember this is a blog about my pregnancy, birth and then the baby. So, you're still here. OK- at 1am everything was fine and I didn't have any cramping/labor pains. At 2:15am I coughed and felt like a bubble, coughed again - another bubble. I went to the bathroom again and turned on the light this time. I had some leakage in my pj's, but it had not been enough for me to notice. And then came the slime. I had all this clear mucus slime coming out of me.....not the bloody mucus plug I had read about and not the clear fluids.
At this time I woke Jason up and we called the on-call doctor. Apparently mucus plugs can come out clear and I have been instructed to put on a sanitary napkin and walk around to see if it becomes "soaked". So far no soaking - so it must have been the mucus plug.
Looks like I had contractions all day yesterday to deliver slime tonight!
Will keep you posted!

Mommy and Baby Ready - Week 37

Baby is now considered full term this week.

This past weekend I had my breastfeeding class and then Jason and I got the car seat bases installed in both our Jeeps. We also set up our pack-n-play (from my sisters) downstairs for "little bit".

I am now measured for my sexy nursing bra.

Today I started my weekly OB appointments with cervical exams - oh boy! They verified that baby is head down, but no effacement or dilation. My doctor returns from her maternity leave this week so I will see her next week and from now on!

Looks like Mom and Dad will be flying in May 7th - 21st to be out here for the birth and the first few days home - we hope. I would hate for them to come and sit around for 2 weeks without any action! Then Wanda and Jim will come out May 22nd - June 1st. We (meaning me) will then have a week at home alone with the baby before Melissa, Ted and Dylan arrive around June 9th through June 23th. Fianlly Stephanie & Doug Carroll will visit us July 24th - 28th/29th. With everyone's help I should be experienced enough to feel confident staying at home with the baby by myself for the rest of my leave.

Love the 'slightly loved' gifts

In addition to the bassinet from Kayce (posted in January) we have been blessed with a "kicker toy", portable swing, bouncy seat, and baby sling from Pat Flores and an exersaucer from Kristy Vetter. We have a few more promised items that we will get one more round of use out of! We're beginning to run out of room to store all of these things until baby gets old enough to enjoy them!

Week of April 14th - 36th week!

This week is not only our 36th week but a very busy week for us in other aspects.

First an update on the weekend. I am large and miserable. I feel like the baby is going to fall out the bottom of my stomach when I stand and walk. I also have pressure in my groin region. All this leads me to believe that he is dropping and getting in the position to be birthed - in a few weeks. My back hurts everyday but my ankles aren't swelling as bad since I have increased my fluid intake and started wearing comfy, supportive, FLATS to work. I can still tell I have fluid retention though. I have been told I don't look like I have a month in me - maybe 2 weeks. I just want to make it into May for Wanda's sake - she doesn't want another "stupid diamond birthstone" - so we're going for the emerald!

We went to (most likely) our last movie before the baby with friends, Chris and Susan, on Saturday and attended Jackson Tracy's Christening party on Sunday. We also cleaned our recliner and moved it to the nursery and purchased a bedside table for lamp, monitor and CD player. I don't see how the nursery can get any more ready. Two things left on the list this week - getting measured for the sexy nursing bras and having the car seats installed, but I now have them scheduled. Then I have to work on childcare and a pediatrician! It never ends!! :)

Monday, April 14th, Jason was inducted into the Free Mason's. He was sworn in on his Grandfather's Bible and can begin his studies to become a 3rd degree Mason. This is something he has been working on with the CO Mason's since July/August of last year. He was accepted the first of the year - but so were many others that it is just now finally his turn for induction. The lodge he is joining has the youngest members in the state and just won the National Lodge Award - so a great place to be. He will now have plenty of excuses to wear his kilt and his tux for formal events!

Tuesday, April 15th, is the start of the weekly OB appointments followed by home group! Saw another new doctor and he said baby boy was definitely head down and ready to go. My pelvis ligaments are loosening to help with the descent, but it also loosens the back ligaments so I don't have the support in my back which leads to backaches! He also thought the baby was around 5.5-6 pounds. Again he said I was measuring perfectly for where I am in the pregnancy. I am consistently gaining a pound a week now. Four more weeks until my due date.

Wednesday, April 16th, Jason is having scaling cleaning done and a wisdom tooth extracted. Everything went well and they sent him home with gauze only - no real instructions and no pain medication! He was back at work the next day on extra strength Tylenol. Oh - and it snowed again.
Thursday was awesome becuase we didn't have anything but work and home!

Friday, April 18th, Jason goes back to the lodge for a follow-up meeting.

Saturday, April 19th, BREAST FEEDING CLASS - woo-hoo! Jason has turned down my offer for him to join me on this one. We are also getting instructions/installation of our car seats into our two Jeeps! One more thing off the list!

Johnson & Wales Shower - April 5th

Saturday, April 5, 2008 - Bette Matkowski and Melissa McKillip hosted a baby shower for Jason & I. It was at Bette's home and we had about 20 people attend including our mothers from SC. The food and fellowship was great - and we could not stop talking about how nice it was and the generosity of everyone. We received so many wonderful gifts we were overwhelmed.

Melissa organized some cute games that were played while everyone visited. The two big winners were Cheryl Nesbitt and Jason - see that baby bottles of candy!
I don't know how this shower could have been more perfect - thank you to all who came and were a part of a wonderful afternoon.
