Evening with SC friends

There is so much to share - I figured I'd just start at the beginning!

Thursday, July 9th we flew into Charlotte, NC. Mom, Dad and Wanda picked us up - in torrential downpour! We all got soak just going a few feet to the car! Once we got to Wanda's house our friends started arriving. Wanda had gotten a few party trays and others brought sides. We were visited by Lee, Jill, Cade and Hart Wiles, Dianna and Donna that work with Wanda, Wanda's cousin Ann, her husband, daughter-in-law and grandson Will, Stephanie & Doug Carroll, Charles, Michelle, Cassie & Charley Edgemon and Karen, Michael and Katie Sipos.

It was a crazy, fun time. The kids all played and the house was full of chatter and laughter! The time flew by too quickly.

Fourth of July - Renissaince Festival

We had a great long holiday weekend. We started it by all having Friday off which was great! Friday we finally purchased a new dishwasher. Ours was on recall from GE.... After that we had Michael and Rebecca over for dinner and Michael got my embroidery software loaded! Finally! Turned out it was an issue with Vista and we would have never figured it out. It's good to have friends that are gifted in technology. :)
Saturday we went to Larkspur, CO for the Renaissance Festival. Nathan was awake the entire drive there. It was so much fun. Everything is set in medieval times: food, entertainment, things for sale, etc. We saw many interesting get-ups since not only to the employees dress, but so do the guests! We saw the Washing Winches, a Celtic band, jousts, pirates, etc! Lots to look at. Nathan took maybe a 20 minute nap all day and didn't sleep on the ride home either!!! We left after 5 hours, when the rain came in. We got dinner on the way home and then made our way back to Thornton. That evening after Nathan went to bed Jason and I watched 5-7 firework shows from our front bedroom window. Nice ending to a nice day.

Sunday we went to church, ate lunch out and returned home. Jason installed our new dishwasher while I did chores around the house. Nathan took a nice nap and then woke for a snack. Michael, Stacy and Ethan came over so Ethan and Nathan could have a play date. At first Nathan was not into it (which is really unlike him) but by the end he was in full swing and we had to lasso him in to feed him dinner!

We are now getting ready for our trip to SC. We fly out in 3 days! :)

14 months old today

Top one is of him eating a graham cracker - which is why his cheeks are puffed out. Then he was getting a little play time in before we headed to school this morning! He's such a big boy - he had to "walk" down our stairs this morning. ;)

A nice, QUIET weekend

Thankfully we have no real news to report.

Jason had to work a half day on Saturday - watching them set up a crane and lift in some machinery. I think it was a pretty interesting "work" day for him.

Nathan continues to feel better and has a great appetite now. We are hoping to put a little weight on his skinny body. He LOVED baked sweet potato and was eating it by the chunks - and then he would "splat" the chunks! We had a mess, but he had fun. He also had his first Oreo - big mess again, but boy did he enjoy it!

He finger painted this weekend, but doesn't quite get that he can't put it in his mouth - still working on that one. He is also working on tooth #3, top left. He is non-stop and keeps us very busy.

I ran errands and started packing for our SC trip. Trying to get all the things we need for the trip - which is turning out to be a lot! :)

We took a long wagon walk and enjoyed the beautiful, sunny, warm weather we are having. I'm loving it and trying to catch some rays where ever I can!

We went to church Saturday night and saw our friend Michael and Rebecca - plan on getting together with them sometime soon to see their new puppy. :)

Part 3 - Random Photos

Here are some photos of Nathan helping me with the mail. (The coupon mailers.) This is him before the surgery.




And these are him sleeping - last night. He usually sleeps on his stomach (like mommy)with his legs tucked under him on his koala bear. What a cutie with his little bum in the air! He's not quite asleep yet - because he puts himself to sleep when I leave. :) Also at daycare yesterday he was asleep on his mat with his blanket over his head - just like mommy too!

Part 2 - Father's Day

Sunday we all woke up feeling better than we all had in a long time. We had breakfast and Jason opened his Father's Day gifts. Jason decided that he would like to take the afternoon to visit the Shrine of Mother Cabrini. This is a park, spring, church, convent, grotto, etc. in Golden. So after lunch out we headed to the mountains.

We made the 373 step trek to the top where the statue of Christ is located. (http://www.mothercabrinishrine.org/) We also visited the rosary garden, springs, grotto and meditation garden. It was a beautiful, warm day so we enjoyed being outside.

We especially enjoyed Nathan feeling better and acting like his old self again. Jason said a well and happy Nathan was his best Father's Day gift!

Part 1 - Illness and Surgery

So much has occurred since my last blog that I will have to divide this update into multiple posts.

Let's start with Nathan's ear infection.....on Wednesday, June 10th, Nathan was diagnosed with an ear infection and started on a 5-day antibiotic. Turns out I had homopholis flu at this time. Antibiotics tear up Nathan's stomach and he was having AWFUL diarrhea. We went to the doctor Monday for a follow up and he still had the ear infection and stomach virus, which he had shared with me and later shared with Jason! There were no more antibiotics to try and with the virus he would not absorb the medication anyway - so we were referred to an ENT for a tubes consultation. We schedule for June 25th.

Wednesday he came home with a fever and Thursday and Friday had 103+. I called our pediatrician but she was out until Friday. I called the Children's Hospital and Nathan saw the Head of ENT at Children's at 5pm. He looked at him and said he needed tubes and we needed to do them tomorrow! He personally made calls but could not get him scheduled until Friday at 7pm. Since they have to fast, we scheduled for Saturday morning. So Friday was spent trying to keep him comfortable. He was also not eating well at all.

Saturday morning arrived and we were at Children's at 6:45am. We did a lot of waiting and walking the halls with Nathan. Finally his surgery was at 9:30am. We were able to go into the OR with him while they administered anesthesia. Eleven long minutes later he was in the recovery room. When he woke we were allowed to go back and see him. He woke up quickly and started getting out of the crib to come to us! He drank apple juice and kept it down no problem. We were then moved back to his room where he was a little fussy and sleepy. He drank milk and kept it down and napped. We were able to leave at 10:45am. He was starving at that time and ate puffs, yogurt and bananas. We then all took a 4 hour nap!

Sunday he was a new child! He was laughing, playing, eating! He had lost from over 24 pounds to under 21 pounds in a week. So he in now making up for lost times!

During all this he had a rash that we got checked out Monday, June 22nd and he has Fifth's Disease. This is just a virus that causes a lacy rash on children. Once the rash has broken out he is no longer contagious - and only a threat to pregnant women now. Thankfully there is no discomforted associated with this parvovirus and no treatment - it will just disappear over time.
