A nice, QUIET weekend

Thankfully we have no real news to report.

Jason had to work a half day on Saturday - watching them set up a crane and lift in some machinery. I think it was a pretty interesting "work" day for him.

Nathan continues to feel better and has a great appetite now. We are hoping to put a little weight on his skinny body. He LOVED baked sweet potato and was eating it by the chunks - and then he would "splat" the chunks! We had a mess, but he had fun. He also had his first Oreo - big mess again, but boy did he enjoy it!

He finger painted this weekend, but doesn't quite get that he can't put it in his mouth - still working on that one. He is also working on tooth #3, top left. He is non-stop and keeps us very busy.

I ran errands and started packing for our SC trip. Trying to get all the things we need for the trip - which is turning out to be a lot! :)

We took a long wagon walk and enjoyed the beautiful, sunny, warm weather we are having. I'm loving it and trying to catch some rays where ever I can!

We went to church Saturday night and saw our friend Michael and Rebecca - plan on getting together with them sometime soon to see their new puppy. :)

Part 3 - Random Photos

And these are him sleeping - last night. He usually sleeps on his stomach (like mommy)with his legs tucked under him on his koala bear. What a cutie with his little bum in the air! He's not quite asleep yet - because he puts himself to sleep when I leave. :) Also at daycare yesterday he was asleep on his mat with his blanket over his head - just like mommy too!

Part 2 - Father's Day

Sunday we all woke up feeling better than we all had in a long time. We had breakfast and Jason opened his Father's Day gifts. Jason decided that he would like to take the afternoon to visit the Shrine of Mother Cabrini. This is a park, spring, church, convent, grotto, etc. in Golden. So after lunch out we headed to the mountains.

We made the 373 step trek to the top where the statue of Christ is located. (http://www.mothercabrinishrine.org/) We also visited the rosary garden, springs, grotto and meditation garden. It was a beautiful, warm day so we enjoyed being outside.

We especially enjoyed Nathan feeling better and acting like his old self again. Jason said a well and happy Nathan was his best Father's Day gift!

Part 1 - Illness and Surgery

So much has occurred since my last blog that I will have to divide this update into multiple posts.

Let's start with Nathan's ear infection.....on Wednesday, June 10th, Nathan was diagnosed with an ear infection and started on a 5-day antibiotic. Turns out I had homopholis flu at this time. Antibiotics tear up Nathan's stomach and he was having AWFUL diarrhea. We went to the doctor Monday for a follow up and he still had the ear infection and stomach virus, which he had shared with me and later shared with Jason! There were no more antibiotics to try and with the virus he would not absorb the medication anyway - so we were referred to an ENT for a tubes consultation. We schedule for June 25th.

Wednesday he came home with a fever and Thursday and Friday had 103+. I called our pediatrician but she was out until Friday. I called the Children's Hospital and Nathan saw the Head of ENT at Children's at 5pm. He looked at him and said he needed tubes and we needed to do them tomorrow! He personally made calls but could not get him scheduled until Friday at 7pm. Since they have to fast, we scheduled for Saturday morning. So Friday was spent trying to keep him comfortable. He was also not eating well at all.

Saturday morning arrived and we were at Children's at 6:45am. We did a lot of waiting and walking the halls with Nathan. Finally his surgery was at 9:30am. We were able to go into the OR with him while they administered anesthesia. Eleven long minutes later he was in the recovery room. When he woke we were allowed to go back and see him. He woke up quickly and started getting out of the crib to come to us! He drank apple juice and kept it down no problem. We were then moved back to his room where he was a little fussy and sleepy. He drank milk and kept it down and napped. We were able to leave at 10:45am. He was starving at that time and ate puffs, yogurt and bananas. We then all took a 4 hour nap!

Sunday he was a new child! He was laughing, playing, eating! He had lost from over 24 pounds to under 21 pounds in a week. So he in now making up for lost times!

During all this he had a rash that we got checked out Monday, June 22nd and he has Fifth's Disease. This is just a virus that causes a lacy rash on children. Once the rash has broken out he is no longer contagious - and only a threat to pregnant women now. Thankfully there is no discomforted associated with this parvovirus and no treatment - it will just disappear over time.

Tartan Dinner, 6-6-09

This weekend was pretty low key. We had the Mason's Tartan dinner on Saturday evening where we had haggis and other traditional Scottish/Irish foods, a silent auction where we won few things, an Irish band and dancing! Here are a few pictures and video. Also see Nathan in his overalls (before 2nd haircut)and climbing the stairs. When he wants to he can scamper up them in a minute!

New addition to our household.

This is "Napoleon".



If you have been to our home you know that the foyer has 20 foot ceilings as you walk in - and this cut out on the second story of it. When we bought the house we both agreed that we needed a suit of armor up there (Jason & Chris wanted a full sized Gene Simmons but that was a no!). So after a few years of struggling with trying to fill that space Jim and Wanda found a suit of armor that was my birthday gift. Isn't he awesome?! The tree behind him has lights in it so we can light it up at night. Need another potted plant for the empty vase and a tapestry to hang behind him- but had to share these photos immediately - so use your imagination!
Love him! He stands guard over our entrance ways!

Nathan moved up to the 1 year old room!

Today Nathan started in the 1 year old room. As far as I could tell when I dropped him off he loved it! :)







I put him down this morning and he was off! There were 2 balloons in the room and he grabbed one of them. He had all the other kids sitting around him looking at the balloon. No crying and holding on to Mommy this morning. He was off exploring his new surroundings.
In the new room he will have two out door recesses, art time, naps on mats, and 3 meals at a table. (The last two I want to see!) They provide the food and when I've gone through my frozen breast milk stash they will provide the whole milk too.
For those of you following our health - last Thursday Nathan was checked out and his ears and throat looked great. The shots cleared him up so much that they almost did not give him the final antibiotic shot. Jason was diagnosed with an ear infection last week. Hoping that June will be a healthier month for us.
Last week we had our last home group "study" and this week we will be having a cook out. We have hosted this in our home for one month shy of two years. Our leader has been offered a job in Texas and will be moving, so our group will be dis-banning. We plan to take the summer off and relax before looking for a new group. We are so grateful for the friends we have met in our group and plan to stay in touch with them and continue our friendships with them. The Lord certainly blessed us with these friends.

PS - this white shirt came home pink after his first day. Unsure if it was "jelly" or "Jello". First time he wore this new birthday outfit to school!

Day two was rainy - and he wore his rain jacket for the first time. Little big, but it worked!
